Level beginner Model Wet folded eye
Teacher Michal Kosmulski
Time Req 1 Hour Designer Michal Kosmulski
I designed this model for my origami workshops in order to be able to teach wet folding to complete beginners. It is also an example of origami folded without any reference points. You can probably see how to make it even without any diagrams. Different effects can be achieved by varying the proportions of the paper and the paper’s thickness relative to its size. This particular rendering used a narrow strip of Murano paper. Since this paper is relatively thin for wetfolding (160 gsm), it is possible to roll it multiple times in order to get a full pupil with many concentric rings. In the workshop, we use A5 sheets of 300 gsm watercolor paper cut in half lengthwise. This thicker paper results in a thicker outline of the eye and a pupil with fewer concentric rings. You can also roll the paper loosely at first in order to get a hollow pupil. Despite extreme simplicity, this model also allows some room for playing with different proportions and shaping, and it seems the folders did enjoy folding it.

Level beginner Model Spanish Box
Teacher Sheree Green
Time Req 2 Hour Designer designer unknown
Many have folded a paper fortune teller. With a few extra folds, it becomes a Spanish box. We’ll begin by decorating 18” sq pieces of tagboard (heavy paper) by using plastic cards to scrape thin layers of acrylic craft paints across the surface. Then we’ll fold them into pretty decorated boxes.

Level intermediate Model Fior di Tirrenia
Teacher Lisa Dunlap
Time Req 1 Hour Designer Yara Yagi
This flower starts with a pentagon, and we will cut that from the square in class. A 6 inch square of paper yields a 2.5 inch flower, so you may want to start with a slightly larger paper. Duo is nice so that the central flower is a different color than the petals.

Level intermediate Model Fujimoto Hydrangea
Teacher Lisa Dunlap
Time Req 1 Hour Designer Shuzo Fujimoto
This is the traditional model and is an accomplishment to fold if you've never tried it. We will fold the first 3 levels, and you can challenge yourself to more levels (use larger paper!) later. Kami paper is too thin and cannot withstand the demands of this model; tant is preferable

Level intermediate Model Simple Elephant and Hedgehog
Teacher Michal Kosmulski
Time Req 1 Hour Designer Michael Kosmulski
A simple elephant seen from the front, folded from a square. This is basically the same design as the business card holder and Elephant Bookmark. A minimalistic design, and simple to fold as well (the two do not always go together). I designed this model especially for the workshop which accompanied my presentation about contemporary origami at the Embassy of Japan in Poland. While rather simple, this model demonstrates a number of traits I believe to be typical of modern origami and usually not found in traditional models. It does not start with any traditional base, and it makes use of simplified precreasing and collapsing. This model is also asymmetric, and it allows lots of free folding: practically all angles and distances can be modified to some extent so that the folder does not have to just blindly follow instructions but can free fold the model to taste if they like.

Level intermediate Model Simplified Shamrock Box
Teacher Michal Kosmulski
Time Req 1 Hour Designer Michal Kosmuslki
Here is a fully simplified version of my Shamrock Box. The original was based on a molecule which can easily be tessellated. However, with a single molecule used for a box, there is no need to connect multiple molecules, and the model can be simplified. Later, I found a way to tessellate the simplified shamrock anyway with just a slight modification.

Level intermediate Model Diabolo Masu
Teacher Sy Chen
Time Req 1 Hour Designer Sy Chen
Don't be fooled by the look of the photo. This model is not your typical Fuse modular box. Each lid or box is folded from a single sheet of duo-color paper. The locking of this design is very secure.

Level intermediate Model Rose and Butterfly
Teacher Wenhau Chao
Time Req 1 Hour Designer Wenhau Chao
Duo paper is best suited for both the rose and the butterfly. Paper: Rose: 6" - Butterfly: 3" Model #1: A Rose for Jean (6 inch) This model offers a dynamic and fun folding experience. It features a rose that transitions through three stages: a rose pod (seed), a baby rose, and a fully bloomed rose with a hidden compartment. The secret compartment adds an element of surprise and delight to the finished piece. Model #2: Asymmetrical Butterfly (3 inch) Embrace the uniqueness of the 'Asymmetrical Butterfly,' which defies traditional symmetry while still capturing the essence of a butterfly. Combining the Rose & Butterfly: Place the butterfly on top of the rose to create the illusion of it hovering above the flower.

Level intermediate Model S.B.C. – Star-Box-Cube
Teacher Wenhau Chao
Time Req 1 Hour Designer Wenhau Chao
One-sheet “action model” that transforms from a Star to a Box and finally to a Cube.

Level intermediate Model Tea Cup & Alli's Gift
Teacher Wenhau Chao
Time Req 1 Hour Designer Wenhau Chao
The Tea Cup design came first. Recognizing the potential of the 'box' space, I experimented with a closure, which led to the creation of Alli's Gift. Both models start with the same initial folds, feature a rounded bottom rim, and include color-changing elements. By modifying the folding sequence midway through, you can create either the Tea Cup or Alli's Gift.

Level intermediate Model Winston's Cubes
Teacher Wenhau Chao
Time Req 1 Hour Designer Wenhau Chao
Embark on a playful adventure of 'Winston’s Cubes', where each fold leads you to uncover a delightful menagerie of polymorphic designs and shapes. 1. Begin with "Winston's Cube" (and container) 2. Transform it to "Winston's Box" 3. Shape it to "Winston's Geometric Blossom" 4. Journey's end "Winston’s Pyramid"

Level advanced Model Colombian sun
Teacher Dasa Severova
Time Req 2 Hour Designer Dáša Ševerová
a complex fractal like model diagrammed in the convention book. Big square of paper (30 – 35 cm), craft paper/kami, something crispy, strong, not too thick and not too soft.

Level advanced Model Flower on the crossroads
Teacher Dasa Severova
Time Req 2 Hour Designer Dáša Ševerová
unusually placed flower, possible part of bigger tessellation or just to see how we can play with different elements

Hover over an image to zoom in on it.

Level advanced Model Body And Soul
Teacher Michal Kosmulski
Time Req 2 Hour Designer Michal Kosmulski
NOTE: PREFOLD 16x16 square grid on an 8" square. This tessellation consists of alternating layers of two types of elements that differ significantly in their appearance and complexity. The folding sequence is quite elegant and, as is rarely the case, apart from different precreasing, a clean fold can be made using the same sequence as a fold from complete grid. Even the clean fold retains some visible crease lines, though, and avoiding those would be very difficult if possible at all due to the way layers are arranged. A molecule is 6×8 grid units which means a square sheet results in a rectangular tessellation. I plan to make another fold some time, with layers arranged horizontally rather than vertically.

Level advanced Model Sol
Teacher Michal Kosmulski
Time Req 2 Hour Designer Michal Kosmulski
Another clean fold of Sol, this time from Kaiser/Stark paper. Please PREFOLD 16x16 square grid on an 8" square

Level advanced Model Square Interlace Tessellation
Teacher Michal Kosmulski
Time Req 2 Hour Designer Michal Kosmulski
A refold of my Square Interlace Tessellation with graphite Elephant Hide paper. I think it’s much better than my original fold — funny how over time one learns to fold even one’s own models better. NOTE: PREFOLD 16x16 square grid on an 8" square

Hover over an image to zoom in on it.

Level advanced Model Dodo
Teacher Quentin Trollip
Time Req 2 Hour Designer Quentin Trollip
From a Fish Base. Requires a point-split, open sinks and quite a few reverse-folds.

Hover over an image to zoom in on it.

Level advanced Model PILEATED WOODPECKER
Teacher Talo Kawasaki
Time Req 2 Hour Designer Talo Kawasaki
Fold this high-intermediate compound model of the largest woodpecker in the U.S., the Pileated (capped) Woodpecker, designed by Talo Kawasaki. We'll use a 24 inch square sheet for an actual size woodpecker (appx 16 inches tall). Then fold a smaller sheet to give him his flashy red cap. And another optional square to give him a lower jaw. No gluing necessary.

Hover over an image to zoom in on it.

Level complex Model Dan’s rosette
Teacher Dasa Severova
Time Req 2 Hour Designer Dáša Ševerová
a complex fractal model, if there is a wish to fold more of fractal models. Folded again from a big square of crispy yet not too thick paper (kami works ok, tant may work as well), 30-35 cm squares

Hover over an image to zoom in on it.

Level complex Model Little Bird
Teacher Jegyun Jung
Time Req 3 Hour Designer Hideo Komatsu
This cute bird is a little harder than intermediate so if you are a novice, this model will prove difficult. If you are an experienced folder, this model will be easy. To fold this model, you will need to know how to do closed sinks, squash folds, and some basic unsinks.

Hover over an image to zoom in on it.

Level complex Model Lucky Star Fractal
Teacher Michal Kosmulski
Time Req 2 Hour Designer independent design by Shuzo Fujimoto, me, and others
NOTE: Prefold 8x8x8 triangle grid on 8" or larger hexagon (see admin) This is a recursive version of the Lucky Star molecule. Just like the non-recursive version, it can be tessellated or used for decorating a box. The back of this model when folded standalone rather than tessellated can either be closed or it can be opened and some extra flaps folded up which results in a pattern resembling a flower.

Level complex Model Grey Rhebok
Teacher Quentin Trollip
Time Req 3 Hour Designer Quentin Trollip
Combination of 22.5 degree and easy box-pleating. Requires a fair bit of sinking and an Elias-stretch.

Hover over an image to zoom in on it.

Level complex Model Hedgehog
Teacher Quentin Trollip
Time Req 3 Hour Designer Quentin Trollip
Based on 22.5 degree and folded flat until the very end when it needs to be made 3D. Bring a long, thin, blunt object (like the handle of a thin paintbrush) that is needed to round the body from its inside!

Level complex Model Sloth
Teacher Quentin Trollip
Time Req 3 Hour Designer Quentin Trollip
Based on 22.5 degree. The details of the face get really small, so fold accurately and tweezers may come in handy!
